Race Report from SUP Team Rider Brandon Rahe
Paddleboard Orlando March 5th, 2011
“Paddleboard Orlando” held it’s 1st ever SUP race on Lake Ivanhoe, in Orlando, FL and WHAT AN EVENT! I can’t say enough about the “Aloha” in the SUP community! Everyone is so helpful, so uplifting, and so supportive of one another, even in a competitive field. What athlete could ask for a better environment?
Pro Racer Chase Kosterlitz put on a great race clinic before the athletes’ meeting, and everyone in attendance got some great info from such a seasoned veteran of the sport, thanks Chase! Paddleboard Orlando did a great job organizing this event and really took care of the athletes from start to finish. They had tons of goodies to raffle off and give away for prizes…everyone was really pulling for those paddles!
Lake Ivanhoe offered a 3 lake view to the racers, with lots of mild buoy turns over a 6-mile Elite Class course. The conditions were flat and extremely fast…as several people broke the course record and their individual PRs, congratulations goes out to all of you!
I pulled off a 2nd place finish in the 12’6” class, 3rd overall (14 footer got me!). And once again, I’m inspired to get my training regimen ramped up to do even better on the next one!
