A Winter Update from Mark Colino
A winter update from SUP Team Rider and Starboard sales representative Mark Colino:
“As a SUP surfer and racer in the northeast during the winter months, you have to train during breaks in the ice. For 8 weeks prior, all our flat water was frozen over. On Thursday, February 11th there appeared to be a strange orange/yellow object in the sky (I think it’s called the sun?!) and some open water to put in some miles. I set up a GPS on my 12’6″ Surf Race and set off to see if my cross training was helping during the down times. The sun suddenly hid behind some clouds, the wind went from 5 knots to 15 knots in a matter of minutes and the temperature plunged back below freezing.
Upon exiting the water I checked my GPS for distance, time & average speed, only to find it frozen over from the spray coming over the bow. So in conclusion, I don’t know if I am faster or slower in 2011…yet.”
