E.J. Johnson's 2011 SUP Race Recap
Here is a recap of the past few weekends in So Cal from SUP Team Rider E.J. Johnson:
It was a COLD morning January 2nd 2011 in Long Beach California where nearly 75 paddlers gathered for the last of the Long Beach Holiday series Dash For Cash event to compete for over $2,000 in cash and prizes.
This particular event was open to any board class, prone, sup unlimited and men and women competing for that Christmas bonus.
This series had two prior races that I had missed, one being the Halloween event and the other being the Turkey paddle. I had already committed to other paddles.
The top 3 men and women in these events had already qualified for the Dash for Cash, but for those of us that had not, we had to qualify that January 2nd morning with a 3.5 mile race and placing in the top 5 spots.
The Dash was interesting to say the least with women starting 6.5 minutes ahead of the men and the combination of classes made it unique and challenging.
I wound up taking 5th place over all, and $50 bucks!
Thanks to the Long Beach Crew for putting this series together and we hope it continues in 2011-2012!
