NAME: Kip Shortreed
LOCATION: Squamish B.C.
RIDING DISCIPLINE(S): DH racing, XC
A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:
I started riding bikes when I was I around 3 or 4, my family has always been very active. When I was younger I even rode halfway around Ireland! I did my first XC race when I was around seven years old and through elementary school I continued doing small local races. I started riding downhill when I was around thirteen and after two years of riding DH a couple friends and I decided we wanted to start racing. From there I just got more and more into riding and it has pretty much turned into my main focus.
I am currently in Grade 12 and working at a local restaurant called ‘The Nest’ where I make delicious pizza. I also work part time at a grocery store. After graduation I plan on going into some sort of post-secondary education but that can wait a year while my brain rests.
FAVOURITE TRAILS, PLACES TO RIDE:
My favorite race course has to be from last season when I went to Bromont for a Canada Cup. The entire way down that track it is pinned and loose and the end is all fast, flowy berms and jumps. It was a challenge to remember that I had to get a bit serious and race the next day because I was just having too much fun. My favorite places to ride are here in Squamish, Whistler Bike Park, The North Shore, and the Sunshine Coast. I don’t really have one favourite trail, I just love being on my bike, going fast, and getting loose.
GOALS FOR 2012: The main one for me is to win a race, I have come close but I haven’t taken a win yet. I want to be on the Podium at every BC Cup as well as Nationals, and to place a top 4 at the Canada Cups. I also want to try to do a bit more filming and content production than I did last year, so I can get my name out there a bit more and help my sponsor brands out. Oh yeah, and I wanna do a backflip/body varial and maybe throw something else in there… that would be pretty sweeeet huhuhuh (Beavis and Butthead laugh)!!!
